ISO/TS 16791 "Health Informatics-International Machine-readable Coding Requirements for Drug Packaging Labeling" outlines everything manufacturers and regulatory agencies need to know to set barcodes on drug packaging, and is suitable for automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) )technology. It supplements the ISO Drug Identification Series (IDMP), which covers various regulatory requirements, such as regulatory requirements related to development, registration, and life cycle management.
Christian Hay, the convenor of the expert working group that developed the specification, said: "The improvements to this latest version of the standard include some new information, such as information related to personalized medicine. ISO/TS 16791 was formulated by Working Group 6 (WG 6) of the ISO/TC 215 Health Informatics Technical Committee responsible for pharmacy and pharmaceutical business. The secretariat of this working group is undertaken by the ISO US member ANSI.
