At present, the UK has officially left the European Union, and the conditions and rules for products entering the UK market have also changed. Since January 1, 2021, the UKCA logo has been officially opened for use and has become a mandatory entry mark for products in the UK market.

01 What is the UKCA logo?

UKCA mark:

The abbreviation of the UK Conformity Assessed mark is a new product mark launched by the UK to replace the use of the CE mark in the UK market.

Applicable area:

Applicable to Great Britain, including England, Wales and Scotland.

Not applicable to Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland will use the UKNI mark or the CE mark).

02 When will the UKCA mark be implemented?

For electrical and electronic products that have the same UK and EU rules:

Before January 1, 2021

Products put on the UK market do not requre any logo updates.

From January 1, 2021

Start using the UKCA logo.

Before January 1, 2022

The CE mark can still be used, and the transition period is one year.

Note: The CE mark is only valid in areas where the UK and EU rules are the same. If the EU changes its rules, products with CE marking based on the new rules cannot use the CE marking in Great Britain during the transition period.

From January 1, 2022

The UK will no longer recognize the CE mark.

Note: Products with the CE mark can only be sold in the UK if the product bears the UKCA mark and complies with relevant UK regulations. That is, under the condition that both the UK and EU regulations are met and the two signs are not obstructed by each other, the CE and UKCA signs can be used on the product at the same time.

03 What product is suitable for the UKCA mark?

The UKCA mark covers most of the products currently under the control of the CE mark and aerosol products, but products such as medical equipment, railway intercommunication, construction products and civil explosives are subject to the special regulations of the United Kingdom.

Special rule products

04 How to use the UKCA logo?

Authorized representative or person in charge:

An authorized representative or responsible person must be appointed in the UK. From January 1, 2021, the UK will no longer recognize authorized representatives and responsible persons in the EU.

Usage rules:

The UKCA mark can only be affixed to the product by the manufacturer or its authorized representative (where permitted by relevant laws).

When affixing the UKCA mark, the manufacturer assumes full responsibility for the product's compliance with relevant regulations.

Manufacturers must not attach other marks to the product that affect the visibility, legibility or meaning of the UKCA mark.

If the size of the logo needs to be reduced or enlarged, the letters of the UKCA logo must be scaled proportionally.

The height of the UKCA mark is at least 5mm (unless relevant laws provide for a different minimum size).

The UKCA mark has transitional measures. Before January 1, 2023, you can choose to affix the UKCA mark to the product or attached documents. From January 1, 2023, in most cases, the UKCA logo must be affixed directly on the product.

05 How to apply for the UKCA mark?

Products affixed with the UKCA mark must be signed by the manufacturer or its authorized representative with the UK Declaration of Conformity (UK DoC).

The information required for the UK Declaration of Conformity (UK DoC) is basically the same as the information currently required for the EU Declaration of Conformity (EU DoC). The difference is that the UK Declaration of Conformity (UK DoC) should list UK statutory documents instead of EU regulations; use the standards specified by the UK (BS standards) instead of the standards cited in the EU OJ.
