Introduction to BSMI

BSMI is the abbreviation of the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, which is responsible for formulating the requirements for products entering the Taiwan market and the implementation of relevant regulations. According to the announcement of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, from July 1, 2005, products entering the Taiwan region should be subject to supervision in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and safety regulations. From January 1, 2018, additional products must comply with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).

Introduction to BSMI certification of wires and plugs

The BSMI certification of wires and plugs is mandatory in Taiwan and needs to be tested by local institutions in Taiwan. The certificate is valid for three years and can be extended once (3 years). The first application for wires requires factory review, which will be conducted once a year after obtaining the certificate; Plugs do not need factory review.

Common wire types in Taiwan:
A. PVC line: VFF; HVFF； VCTF； HVCTF； VCTFK； HVCTFK 。
B. Rubber wire: NNFF; PNCTF； PNCTFK。
Test standard: CNS 3199; CNS15663。

The Taiwan Bureau of Standards updated the sampling principle of wires in September 2020. The new sampling principle is applicable to new applications and certificate extension projects. Please confirm with Saida for details.

Common models of plug in Taiwan:
A. Plug polarity: two-pole general type, product name: non-separable power line group.

Common application rated parameters: AC125V 7A 11A 15A

B. Plug polarity: two poles with grounding, product name: non-separable power line group.

Common application rated parameters: AC125V 7A 11A 15A

Test standard: CNS 690; CNS 15767-1。
Note: The wires and plugs must comply with the requirements of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), and a RoHS report is required. Accept the RoHS report issued by ISO17025 laboratory, and contact Saida for confirmation for details.

BSMI certification cycle
After receiving the samples, the Taiwan BSMI cooperative laboratory will arrange a test engineer, who will complete the test report within 12-15 weeks.

The engineers of Taiwan BSMI cooperative laboratory submit the test report to the certification department of the Standards and Inspection Bureau of the Ministry of Economy of Taiwan for review and certification. The issuing department is expected to issue the BSMI certificate within 2 weeks.

From testing to certification, the whole certification cycle needs 14-17 weeks.
